Lou Chen '19, Founder and Director
Lou is currently Program Manager for Trenton Arts at Princeton, the University's coordinator of arts outreach activities in the Greater Trenton area. He also continues to serve as Director of the Trenton Youth Orchestra, which he founded as a sophomore in college and is now part of the TAP Saturday Morning Arts program.
Originally from San Bernardino, CA, Lou is a 2019 graduate of Princeton University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Music (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) with Certificates in Conducting Performance and American Studies. While a student, he studied conducting with Dr. Ruth Ochs. A strong advocate for accessible music education, in January 2019 Lou was invited by Princeton University Concerts to participate in a panel discussion on El Sistema, Venezuela’s publicly-financed music education program, alongside Gustavo Dudamel and Anne Fitzgibbon of the Harmony Program. In recognition of his work developing Trenton Arts @ Princeton, Lou has received the Santos-Dumont Prize for Innovation, A. James Fisher, Jr. Memorial Award, and Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts.
